A light, unbraked utility trailer suits either powertrain; a heavier boat points toward the gas turbo, and the heaviest loads toward the XRT. All ratings assume a properly equipped vehicle, and Hyundai sells the hitch as an accessory.

Trailer Sway Control comes on every Santa Fe, and the gas turbo’s 311 lb-ft and eight-speed automatic handle the pulling. HTRAC all-wheel drive, available on both powertrains, can send up to half its torque to the rear, useful on a wet launch ramp.

Every Santa Fe comes pre-wired for a trailer, and Hyundai offers the hitch and ball mount together as the Tow & Go Package. The XRT adds Terrain Mode settings, all-terrain tires and 8.3 inches of ground clearance for sand and gravel.
