A normally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque is the standard non-hybrid Elantra powertrain. It is found under the hood of SE and SEL variants. By choosing the more athletic N Line model, the displacement is reduced to 1.6 liters and a turbocharger is added, producing a much livelier 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. The 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine is also used in the hybrid vehicles, but it is coupled with an electric motor rather than a turbo, which produces more torque-195 pound-feet, or the same amount of horsepower as the N Line-instead of horsepower. A CVT (continuously variable gearbox) is paired with the 2.0-liter basic engine of the SE and SEL, but not the N Line, Blue Hybrid, or Limited. Hybrid models get a DCT (dual-clutch transmission).
The 2023 Elantra with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder gets an EPA-estimated 33 miles per gallon in the city and 42 out there on the highways of Wisconsin and Illinois. The turbocharged 1.6-liter four variant gets an estimated 28 mpg city and 36 highway while the hybrid gets 53 mpg in the city and 56 mpg on the highway.
We love the dashboard and center console and how it wraps around the driver. The passenger room is quite generous as is the cargo space to be found in the trunk. Tech features include the
optional 10.3-inch digital gauge display with an 8.0-inch center display coming as a standard feature. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard offerings along with a Wi-Fi connection and voice recognition.
